Concert Series-2.png

Sarah Colimon & Jonathan Perodin, with Steve Colimon & Josue Alexis

The program includes works by Bach, Shostakovitch and Leclair. A piece is dedicated in memory of all of those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. This concert is made even more meaningful by the fact that all of the performers are survivors of that catastrophic event. It is a testament to the power of music to heal and transform.

Jonathan Perodin was born into an artistically inclined family. Like his cousins he began playing the violin at age 4, studying with his aunt, Yvrose Philippe-Auguste. In 2015, Jonathan became the second musician to represent Haiti in the Orchestra of the Americas (OA). A Fulbright Scholar, Jonathan completed his masters degree in Arts Management at American University in 2019. Currently a BLUME Haiti board member, Jonathan also teaches violin and performs with the Vibrayiti Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble he co-founded in 2015.

Sarah Colimon started playing the violin at age 6; her teachers included Guerlyn Esperance and the late Romel Joseph. At 14, she joined the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra (OPST). In 2013 Sarah became the first Haitian to take part in the Orchestra of the Americas and participated in tours with this ensemble to Central American, the Caribbean and Europe. Sarah currently teaches music in several schools in Port-au-Prince and is a member of the Vibrayiti Chamber Orchestra.

Steve Colimon, Sarah’s older brother, began playing the cello at age 7 at the Holy Trinity Music School. Currently a member of the Vibrayiti Chamber Orchestra, from 2000-2010 Steve taught cello at the Dessaix-Baptiste Music School in Jacmel and he now teaches in a number of music programs in the capital and at the National Institute of Music in Hinche

Born in Port-au-Prince, Josue Alexis started the piano at a young age. A prize winner at the 2003 national piano and music theory competition, Josue has performed with many international artists as well as household names in Haiti such as James Germain, Emeline Michel and Beethova Obas. A very versatile musician, Josue participated in the 8th Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival and he currently teaches piano and is the principal accompanist of the Saint-Louis/Sacre-Coeur choir.
